Actually, I think the government says 'because organized crime would use
cryptography'; but criminals with guns is the generalization.

If you were a criminal, would you select cryptography that is 'Key
Recovery'
("GAK" Government Access to Keys) compliant?

I don't think so.

I was watching MSNBC's "Time and Again" with Jane Pauley, and they went
over
the Patty Hearst kidnapping by the "Symbionese Liberation Army".

The terrorists kept Ms. Hearst locked in a closet so small she couldn't
move.

They would play games with her head, like suddenly dragging her out of the
closet, hold a gun to her head, and sometimes pull the trigger (on an
empty
chamber).

Then they started screwing her. Again and again.

They took complete control of a sweet young college kid. The
