SAFETY AND SECURITY MANAGER - Torrance, CA

A biochemical company in Torrance, CA is seeking a Safety and Security
Manager.  Here are the details:

JOB FUNCTION:
The Safety and Security Manager is responsible for all safety and
security.  This individual proactively establishes, manages, and
administers all plans and programs to ensure environmental compliance,
the health and safety of employees, and the security of the facility
and operations. In addition, this individual will be responsible for
eliminating and/or controlling any hazardous conditions resulting from
human error and equipment operation, which may lead to human injury
and/or property damage.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Safety:
Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety
regulations applicable.
Establish (as necessary), manage and administer all environmental,
health, and safety plans and programs including, but not limited to:
Injury and Illness Prevention Program,  Hazard Communication Program,
Emergency Action and Fire Prevention Plan,  Respiratory Protection
Program,  Control of Hazardous Energy Sources Program,  Forklift Safety
Program,  Hazardous Waste Source Reduction Program,  Serve as
chairperson of the Safety Committee.  Act as the champion for safety,
leading company-wide safety meetings and safety training efforts.

Security:
Ensure security and protection of assets (property and personnel) and
operations from theft, arson, vandalism, sabotage, espionage,
harassment, threats, and violence. Establish, manage, and administer
all perimeter and internal security programs.  Create and distribute
security manuals, do***ents and records as they pertain the facility
and its surroundings.  Maintain facility security requirements and
implement procedures for safeguarding the facility, equipment and
personnel.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluation and management of outside services and consultants related
to safety and security
Creation of new and revision of existing written plans, programs, and
standard operating procedures applicable to safety and security
Participate in the design qualification process for facilities,
installations, equipment, and instrumentation to ensure safety and
security
Perform hazard and risk analysis to reduce the risk of safety
incidents, and provide productivity tools to maintain plant safety.
Conduct safety awareness training sessions for new and existing
employees.
Maintain inspection re****ts and advise senior management of
deficiencies and remedial efforts to eliminate deficiencies.
Perform periodic and random security inspection of facility, and
prepare security re****t as necessary.
Liaison with management regarding security violations and hold
respective supervisory personnel accountable for deficiencies.
Ensure compliance with local city and state government regulations.
Maintain security do***entation as required for all related outside
regulatory agencies.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
BS degree in science discipline preferred.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION:
5 or more years of chemical or pharmaceutical industry experience.
Prior experience with environmental, health, and safety compliance
preferred.

SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS:
Enthusiasm and dedication; a self-starter who can motivate others.
Accurate and detail oriented.  Ability to set priorities and to follow
through on commitments.  Creativity to solve technical and compliance
problems.  Ability to meet deadlines under pressure.  Strong
organizational skills. Good communication skills, bilingual with
fluency in Spanish preferred.  Computer literate.

production of innovative biochemical and pharmaceutical compounds.
This position is within the division that has scientific know-how in
peptide conjugation, antibody production (peptides and proteins) for
immunoassay, immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry, kit
formulation and iodination of peptides.  The company employs
approximately 550 motivated and qualified people worldwide.
