Homopolar generator run as a motor

Faraday's homopolar generator, in full form (e.g. a full size circular
magnet providing a full magnetic field to cover the entire rotating disk),
can generate a small voltage (and potentially large current), regardless
of whether the magnets are stationary (do not rotate with the disk) or are
rotating with the disk (maybe attached to the disk).  In order to obey the
law of conservation of energy, there has to be work applied (energy input)
to get energy out.  And unless it is grossly wasted in conversion to heat
or noise or something, at low levels of taking energy out, there has to be
less energy going in.  So it would seem that such a generator will have to
present mechanical "resistance" in some pro****tion to energy taken out.
And unless it somehow stores this over time, it would have to be in some
pro****tion to the power taken out.  So I would expect it to be easy to
turn
when no electrical load is applied, and harder to turn when a big load is
applied.

And this should be the case regardless of whether the magnets rotate with
the disk, or are stationary (since the rotation of the magnets cannot make
a rotating magnetic field, since there is no such thing as rotation of a
magnetic field).

What if, instead of applying power/energy in the form of rotating the
disk,
we apply a smooth DC voltage and allow a (possibly large) current to flow
through the disk, in the appropriate radial direction.  If the current is
flowing in the same direction when applied, as it would if loaded when it
is rotated as a generator, shouldn't we expect it to rotate in the
opposite
direction?

And this should be the case regardless of whether the magnets rotate with
the disk, or are stationary (since the rotation of the magnets cannot make
a rotating magnetic field, since there is no such thing as rotation of a
magnetic field)?
